Orbit Support
Orbit lives in your Mac’s menu bar. Open its icon to edit layouts, change shortcuts, and tidy your workspace.
First setup
- Open Orbit and allow Accessibility access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Add the regular desktops you want in Mission Control.
- For the Mac App Store edition, enable “Switch to Desktop 1–4” in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Mission Control. The desktop number shortcuts must be enabled for Tidy Up to move windows.
- Open Orbit → Settings → Layouts and assign apps to desktops. Choose a Chrome profile for each Chrome row.
- Choose Tidy Up from Orbit’s menu whenever you want to restore your layout.
Common questions
Will Tidy Up close my other windows?
No. Ordinary Tidy Up keeps other apps and windows open. “Tidy Up & Close Extra Windows…” is a separate action that asks for confirmation.
Why did a window stay on the wrong desktop?
Check that the desktop exists, that the matching Mission Control desktop shortcut is enabled, and that Orbit has Accessibility permission. The Mac App Store edition uses macOS window dragging and desktop switching. Some apps or windows may refuse to move.
Why can’t Orbit find my Chrome profile name?
In the Mac App Store edition, choose the corresponding Chrome profile number. App Sandbox prevents Orbit from reading Chrome’s profile database directly.
Where are layouts and shortcuts saved?
They are saved on this Mac in Orbit’s local app preferences. Orbit does not require an account or sync them between Macs.
